Now that running and I are very close these days, I decided to take a "runcation" (run + vacation). After a conversation with my friend, Darren, I chose Chicago as my destination and the Shamrock Shuffle 8K as the race.
I placed a bid for my hotel room on Priceline, and scored the Palmer House Hilton in Downtown. (More on this later). It was very close to the starting line, and who doesn't like having quick access to the Magnificient Mile.
Darren and Mike took the train into the Windy City. After their arrival, we hit up the Race Expo at the Navy Pier.

After the expo, we opted to walk back to the hotel. Along the way, we saw a few of the Windy City landmarks.
That evening we met up with my high school friend and his wife for dinner.
